The PEU Faithfull’s, descend to Polokwane, in Limpopo, for a two-day General Executive Council (GEC) meeting, scheduled for 29 and 30 October. The GEC, which draws the leadership of various Provinces and Districts, marks the first and last activity for the academic year of 2020, after the Union has been equally and disproportionately affected by the debilitating effect that came with COVID-19.

The GEC will also be as a platform for summation of World Teachers Day Activities and a Candlelight Ceremony, to honour and respect our members and other public servants who succumbed to the COVID-19. The Director-General for Basic Education and the SACE CEO will be amongst dignitaries to deliver messages of support to our delegates, in an open session of the meeting, staring at 9H00. Ideally, the GEC is attended by delegates from the Association of Non-Aligned Teachers Unions of Southern Africa (ANTUSA), which include Teachers Unions from Botswana, Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe but due to COVID-19 that will not be feasible. ANTUSA will in turn send a message of solidarity that shall be read to Councilors.
The Council meeting is the highest sitting in between Congresses and high on the agenda, during our close session, that will start immediately after the first session, will be a progress report on the 2019 Congress Resolution and their status, as well as activity plan for 2021.
The meeting venue has been conveniently chosen as it strictly observes protocols against COVID-19.

“Our members strictly enjoined to observe safety measures against the pandemic. Those with fever or any other symptoms associated with COVID-19 are advised to stay at home, as they will not be allowed access to the venue. Members are urged to put on face masks at all times and those who happen to forget theirs will be provided with by the Union” said the PEU Head Honcho, Ben Machipi.
