Graduate and move up the scale in search of something better. The second most vivid memory people have are voices, whispered ones and loud ones. These are the voices that ring in your head. These are the voices you come to know.

The Society weighs heavy, it has expectations and we are not allowed to let it down. The society is a dictator.

The modern concept of a perfect body is heavily flawed. There are two types, you are either ‘model type skinny’ or ‘hot girl thic’ and there’s no in between.

The modern ‘it’ Man has to be a GQ Prototype, with abs and all to show for it. There’s no room for short men, for bald men, for non-bearded men, there is no room for diversity.

The year is 2019 and we claim to accept our bodies wholesomely; Completely. This is a sham, when you have to compliment a big lady by saying she’s pretty “but” there’s an issue, that’s society ringing a bell in your head (An indication that you are not as woke as you seem)

The mass media, is the biggest factor contributing to this judgement. They represent the idea of perfect beings and they forget the people in between. The people in between deserve inclusivity.

Body shaming is an international problem, see the case of Italian blogger Chiara Ferragni or the Wisconsin Cheerleader case where she was shamed for her big bottom.

This issue is still very present in our society, take movies for instance, the representation of a beautiful girl is one who’s seemingly in shape, their definition of “drab to fab” involves them losing a lot of weight and taking off their glasses so their “hidden beauty” is revealed. The society encourages us to modify our bodies instead of embrace them.

Men are subject this same scrutiny. These ridiculous standards of what a perfect body should be; Although not a conscious bias, it is reoccurring everyday in our society. Take for instance, Taller men are seemingly more capable of talking on leadership roles than men with average height. Men are criticized for their weight, their height, their baldness, their hairiness, and even the length of their penis. It can get tough.

The society is Mussolini reincarnated, from a young age we were conditioned to accept societies expectations, encouraged to stay fit and define things by their physicality. It targets the overweight, the underweight and everyone in between. Author Amy E. Farrell explained that in the 19th century, “there was a greater desire for a certain level of body fat; it represented a healthy body. The early signs of fat-shaming included the introduction of “fat women” postcards in the early 1900’s.

We weren’t born disliking our bodies, Society has taught us to loathe ourselves. Nearly 8 or 9 out of 10 people have been body shamed once in their lives. I have, for my small bust and it weighed heavily on me throughout high school. Body shaming streams into harassment and it is just another way of bullying.

The Society will never accept. Once you are born, the society hands you a rule book, shouldered by the big hands of tradition, culture and norms. Our Bodies do not belong to us, they are a product of fine tuning. If we do not fit, we modify; We change ourselves. This is the key to our freedom, it is dynamic. Our Bodies are mere mannequins on display, clothed with the attire of professionals. There is no room for excess, we reduce, trim and cutaway. We expertly hide and tuck imperfections.

Your body is not your own.
