In 1959 in Norwood technical college in London a design contest, was held for who can design the Nigeria flag and Taiwo design was accepted although changes was made to it.

Nigerians are very much familiar with the green, white, green colour of the Nigeria flag.

The white part of the Nigeria flag have a sun emblem, that is coloured with red streaming rays, stripes are also draw at the top but these designs was totally removed by the judges of the contest, and it has not been changed since the judges said so.

The young man saw an advertisement in the newspaper, for the submission of designs for the new Nigerian flag, and his submission was accepted.

Nobody recognized him and honoured him for the design of the Nigeria flag, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi is now 82 years old.
