See 8 Classmates in Secondary School, that 2 were President and 4 were Governors and 2 Ministers

Is very rare to see group of classmates and friends during Secondary School to became great Nation leaders of all time. Is as if they all know that they will be great in life as all became good friends in Secondary School.

Now meet eight Classmates and friends during their Secondary School Education, that two among them became President of Nigeria and others became Governors and Minister.

From 1957 to 1962 Ibrahim Babangida, Mohammed Sani Sami, Mohammed Magoro,Sani Bello, Garba Duba,Gado Naska, Mammam Vasta, and Abdulsalami Abubakar, attended Government College Bida together as Classmates and Friends.

1. Ibrahim Babangida GCFR

He joined the Nigerian Army on 10 December 1962, immedaitely after His Secondary School Education. He was trained in Nigerian Military Training College and received his Commission as a second Lieutenant as a regular Combatant Officer in the Royal Nigerian Army.

During his Military Career, Babangida attained the following ranks , 1963 Second Lieutenant, 1966 Lieutenant , 1968 Captain,1970 Major,1970 Lieutenant Colonel,1973 Colonel, 1979 Brigadier General,1983 Major General,1987 General. Babangida became President at the Rank of Major General in 1985.

2. Mohammed Sani Sami

He was born in Zuru in Kebbi State. He joined the Army on 10 December 1962, and Attended courses with Ibrahim Babangida and were also Classmates at Government College Bida together as Classmates.

He was Commissioned in July,1963 and was appointed Lieutenant Colonel, Sani was Commander of the Brigade of Guards. Mohammed Sani Sami was appointed the Governor of Bauchi State in 1985. Mohammed Sani Sami retired as a major General on 3 September 1990. He later became the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State.

3. Mohammed Magoro

He was born in Kebbi State. Mohammed Magoro is a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army who was twice a Government Minister under General Obasanjo and Buhari. In the April 2011 elections he was elected Senator for the Kebbi South Constitution of Kebbi State, Nigeria. He was classmates with Babangida and others in Bida Government Secondary School.

He was also retained as Minister under Ibrahim Babangida's Regime after Buhari Administration.

4. Colonel Sani Bello

He is a retired Nigerian Army Colonel and Administrator. After his retirement, he amassed an enormous fortune through investments in Oil, Telecommunication and electricity. He is also the Founder of Sani Bello Foundation. He was born in Kontagoro Nigerian in 1942. 

He joined Nigerian Army in December 1962 alongside his childhood friends. He was Commissioned as Second Lieutenant of the Nigerian Army in July 1965.

Colonel Sani Bello was appointed Military Governor of the old Kano( now Kano State and Jigawa State) from 1975 to 1978. His administration was tasked by the Federal Government to implement, Local Government reform led to the creation of 20 Local Government Areas in Kano.

After Colonel Sani Bello retired in 1979, he has held various parts time appointments as a Chairman of Niger Green Revolution, Niger State NYSC, Niger State Polytechnic and Niger State Science and Technical School. He served as the Chairman of Nigerian Table Tennis Federation and led the National team to the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship and 1983 World Table Tennis Championship in Tokyo (Ambassador) to Zimbabwe from 1984 to 1986.

On his return home from Zimbabwe, Colonel Bello Cultivated clients, Business associates and friends who have extended his business interest in Banking insurance, Construction,and Telecommunications. He maintains personal and business links with his childhood friends General Ibrahim Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar. In 1993, he co-founded Amni,a national Oil and Gas exploration and Production Company with interest in Ketu and Okoro oilfield. He is currently the Chairman of Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company Limited and Mainstream Energy Solution Limited.

5. Garba Duba

He is a retired Nigerian Army Lieutenant General who was Governor of Bauchi State, Nigeria from July 1978 to October 1979 during the Military Regime of General Olusengo Obasanjo,and Administration of Sokoto State from January 1984 to August 1985 during the Military Regime of Major General Muhammadu Buhari.

Garba Duba was born in 1942. He was educated in Provincial Secondary School, Bida Niger State. He joined the Nigerian Army as a Cadet Officer, entering the Nigerian Military Training College in 10 December 1962.

One of his classmates and Army Colleagues was Ibrahim Babangida, who married Duba's Cousin Maryam in September 1969.

Later he was appointed Military Administrator of Sokoto State (1984 to 1985) other Posts included Commanders of 2nd Mechanized Division (1987 to 1988) Commander of 3rd Armoured Division and Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy (1990 to 1992). He retired in 1993, after thirty one years of active Military Service. After retirement, he entered Business, holding Positions that included Chairman of the New Nigerian Development Company, Chairman is SGI Nigerian, Director of Honeywell Flour Mills PLC. Since August 1998,and Chairman of the Board of Leadway pensure, a Pension Fund Administration Company.

6. Gado Nasko

He was born in 1941. He was the Military Governor of Sokoto State, Nigeria between 1978 to 1979. Nasko retired from the Army in 1993 after Abacha took over from Sonekan. He was at the time a Major General and retired to his Village Home in Nasko Niger State quietly to his new life as a farmer and Community leader. He was decorated by President Olusengo Obasanjo with the National Honour Award of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and recognized as one of the most respected Statesman in Nigeria. He was once a Military Secretary from 1976 to 1978, Military Governor Sokoto State from 1978 to 1979, Commandant Corps or Artillery from 1980 to 1985, Minister of Trade, Agriculture and Water Resources from 1985 to 1989 and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja from 1989 to 1993.

7. Mammen Jiya Vasta OFR

He was born December 1940 and died on March 1986.

He was a Nigerian General and Poet who served as Minister of the Federal Capital Abuja, and was a member of the Supreme Military Council.

Vasta was childhood friends with Ibrahim Babangida and both men were peer who attended the same Educational Institutions. Like Babangida da-Vasta attended the Government College Bida from 1957 to 1962 and started his Career with the Nigerian Army by enrolling in the Nigerian Military Training College on 10 December 1962.

Vasta subsequently served as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry from 1979 to 1983. During the later part of President Shehu Shagari's government, Vasta was appointed Quarter Master General.

During the 27 August 1985 Babangida take over power when General Vasta was in Mecca with General Tunde Idiagbon on pilgrimage. He was the Federal Minister for the Federal Capital Territory.

8. Abdulsalami Abubakar

He was born on June 1942 to his Father Abubakar Jibril and his mother Fatikarde Mohammed in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. 

From 1950 to 1956 he Attended Minna Native Authority Primary School. From 1957 to 1962, he had his Secretary School Education at Government College Bida, Niger State, From Kaduna Technical College.

Abubakar is a member of the Pioneering sets of Air Force on 3 October 1963. From 1964 to 1966, he was flown to Uetersen, West Germany with a team of Officer Cadets, for Basic Advance Military Training, when he returned to Nigeria in 1966, he was seconded to the Nigeria Army.

After joining the Army in 1966 as an Officer Cadet, Abubakar attended the Emergency Combatant Short Service Course two. In October 1967, Abubakar was Commissioned Second Lieutenant Infantry Division, Nigerian Army. From 1967 to 1968, Abubakar was General Staff Officer Second Garrison,and Commanding Officer,92 Infantry Battalion from 1969 to 1974.

Abubakar was Commanding Officer,84 Infantry Battalion.

In 1978 to 1979, Abubakar was Commanding Officer for the 145 Infantry Battalion, United Nations Interim Force Lebanon.

Abubakar was the Commander 3rd Mechanized brigade and He also served as the Military Secretary of the Army, from 1993 to 1998, General Sani Abacha appointed Abubakar as the Chief of Defence Staff.

Upon Abacha's death on 8 June 1998, Abubakar took power as the Military President of Nigeria and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces on 9 June 1998.

These childhood friends were very favoured in their Military Career. That 2 became President and 4 were Governors and 2 were Ministers
