They believe when a lady is old enough for marriage, their lips would be perforated 12 months before their marriage. After the wound heals, a disc made with clay is inserted into their mouth. This will make them beautiful in the sight of men. The larger the disc inserted into their mouth, the more they are valued.

Meet Ataye Eligidagne, the Ethiopian lady who hold the record of the biggest mouth in the world up till date. Ataye's big mouth is wide enough to occupy a 59.5cm disc in circumference and 19.5cm in diameter making her keep the world record up till date.

Many foreign bodies jetted to Ethiopia just to meet Ataye and interview her. In one of her interviews with Guinness world records, she said "My mouth is something I am proud of. Whenever I wear the disc, it makes me very proud and it makes me feel beautiful and belong in the society".

Up till date, much people are still not happy with the culture of some part of Ethiopia still keeping this culture, however they are proud of it and still believe it is what makes one beautiful.
