In Summary

  • Embattled ex-Nairobi Governor says he had just returned home from preparing next episodes of the exposé.

Ex-Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has received gag orders stopping him from further publication of information he alleges is proof of corruption in the judiciary.

Since November 16, the politician and businessman has been sharing on his social media platforms recordings which he alleges expose the rot in Kenya’s judicial system. The release of the expose, in a five-part series, was designed to coincide with the swearing in of new Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu.

Sonko was removed from office following impeachment at the Nairobi County Assembly and later Senate. He had filed a petition to stop the swearing in of Kananu as Governor, which was thrown out by High Court Judge Said Chitembwe.

Expectedly, Chitembwe has been one of the judges adversely mentioned in the #Sonkoleaks, alongside his lawyers Cecil Miller and George Kithi. It is the later two who have obtained the gag orders from Milimani Chief Magistrate H.M Nyaga.

Sonko’s KSh315m Allegation

He alleged that the lawyers received over KSh315 million to stab him in the back.

“Pending hearing interpartes the defendants are hereby restrained from publishing further statements/articles forthwith as regards the plaintiffs/applicants,” says the order.

The former Governor says he received the order after getting back home “after a long day of tying up the subsequent episodes being 5B, 5C, 6 A, B and 7 (of the exposé ).”
