The building bridges initiative (BBI) that was initiated by president Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange democratic movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga has successfully birthed a constitutional moment that is being spearheaded by various top politicians.

However, few days ago, a host of top allies of Raila Odinga including Siaya Senator James Orengo and Rarieda member of parliament Otiende Omollo made surprise claims to the effect that top government officials were plotting on betraying Raila Odinga and installing their preferred presidential candidate in 2022.

And now, as a storm continues to hit the handshake camp over the matter, details have since emerged on the current relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga.

In an interview with The Standard, majority leaders both in the national assembly and the senate Amos Kimunya and Samuel Poghisio have come out to speak on the relationship between the two principals.

According to Poghisio, the relationship between the two is still intact and the matters alleged by their top lieutenants are neither here or there. He further disclosed that the two have not spoken yet

"The two have not spoken yet, I think we can not force them to deliberate on side issues. Their relationship is strong," the former communication cabinet minister in Kibaki's government said.

He also maintained that Raila and Uhuru had spoken about this matter (2022 succession) in the past and decided to move forward.
