Azimio-OKA presidential candidate and ODM leader Raila Odinga has finally responded to a petition seeking to bar him from contesting the presidential race in August.

Raila has filed a response to the petition by Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot who wants the former Prime Minister to be blocked from being on the ballot on grounds that he is still a public servant.

The ODM leader, through his lawyer Paul Mwangi, dismissed Aukot's argument and claimed that the petition is defective both in form and substance.

Raila maintains that the petition is unmerited and was brought in bad faith.

According to the former premier, a retired public officer is not a public officer, and the Public Service Commission has no jurisdiction over the matter.

While calling for the dismissal of the petition, Raila said that the court should allow him to vie for the presidency as per Section 4(2) and 8 of the Acts as read with Articles 137(1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya.

He also said IEBC is yet to vet candidates and argued that there are other institutions mandated with the procedure to clear candidates to contest in a general election.

On his part, Attorney General, who was mentioned as the 1st Respondent in the case, said that the petition fails the test of justifiability and ripeness.
