Politicians who are not contesting in the upcoming general election are in a race against time to secure nominations either to the county assemblies as MCAs or to parliament as MPs. This race however has its own hurdles as power brokers are using it to mint millions.

Speculations are rife that some political heavyweights are selling nomination slots to the tune of millions. In one of the Nyanza counties, politicians eyeing nomination slots have been forced to form WhatsApp groups so that they can raise the requisite amount for the much-needed nomination.

The renowned public figures have been turned into beggars as they prevail upon their family and friends to support their drive. Word has it that those seeking nomination to county assembly are parting with up to Ksh 5 million for the same as their parliamentary counterparts cough out Ksh 10 million.

Ongoing soliciting and bribery for slots have seen a popular governor candidate from the same region make a last-minute change on his nomination list. He is reported to have struck off the name of a person living with a disability and replaced him with his in-law. This move has sparked an outcry within his party as the PLWD league protested it.
