Having been closed for about seven months now, the government has plans underway to fully reopen the basic learning institutions. Despite this aim to have all schools resume learning, there have been cases of the deadly coronavirus disease being reported back in schools after the government partly opened the classrooms for Grade 4, Form 4 and Class 8 pupils.

Just a week ago, there were cases of Covid-19 being reported in schools in different parts of the country. The most vivid case that is still fresh in our minds is the case of Star of the Sea High School and Tononoka Secondary School which were closed after teachers tested positive for Covid-19. Several other schools have reported cases of fatalities of teachers.

Now the latest news indicates that 11 students have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus disease at Friends School Kamusinga in Bungoma County. In Addition to this, 6 other students have tested positive for Covid-19 at Kimilili Boys High School. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

This now calls for immediate and more strict measures to be taken by the ministry of health in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to ensure that the students are safe in schools.
