It’s kind of an open secret that most Christians haven’t read the Bible. Despite polls showing that 92% of Americans agree with the statement “Every word in the Bible is as true as the Bible, and also this poll wasn’t just made up by a guy who needed a quote for his lede,”
The pastor may find it difficult to preach on such difficult topics and finding application from those books. Preaching the Old Testament is hard work and very persopnal as one sees oneself in the wayward Jews. Who doesn’t have idols in their hearts who chase after wealth and security more than God. It’s easier not speaking about what is truly down right personal with ourselves. We might not like what we see about ourselves as it mirrors our lives.
Not everyone who identifies themselves as a pastor, or religious teacher, should be listened to. Peter warned the believers in his day, “But false prophets arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies…” (2 Pet. 2:1) The church today needs pastors who will faithfully represent Jesus in their preaching and lifestyles.
Below are some of the verses that are highly avoided by pastors in our churches.
