He is a Mexican suspected drug lord and leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, an international crime syndicate based in Sinaloa, Mexico.

He worked with Amado Carrillo Fuentes in the 1990s and, alongside Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, helped the Sinaloa Cartel absorb many of its factions when Fuentes died in 1997.

The notorious Mexican drug lord, who's credited with building the Sinaloa Cartel with El Chapo in the early '90s, has managed to evade authorities for years. Where El Mayo is now remains unknown, but he's believed to be hiding out in Mexico's Sinaloa mountain.
