Below are some of the vital requirements to be a chief;
1. An individual must possess Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of C or its approved equivalent with grade C in English or Kiswahili.
2. One must be a resident of the respective location or sub location he/she needs the Chief or Assistant Chief's roles
3. An individual must be thirty five years old of age and above.
4. One must also be in possession of good communication skills.

Basic Salary:
The basic salary of a newly recruited chief without experience ranges between Ksh 30,000 and below while that of an experienced Chief ranges between Ksh 30,000 and Ksh 60,000.
On the other hand,an experienced assistant chief's basic takes home a monthly salary of between Ksh 25,000 and Ksh 45,000.
The highest paid chief earns Ksh 70,000 in a single month.
