Bad News To Students As Shutdown of Schools Will Be The Only Option As Covid-19 Surges[Opinion]

Covid-19 cases continues to rise sharply again in our country. In today's covid-19 data from the Ministry of Health headed by Mutahi Kagwe 616 people have tested positive for covid-19 with 12 deaths in the last 24 hours. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

The disease appeared to have reduced in months of August and September but now it is on the rise. The reduction in the country's number of infections made the Ministry of Education to rethink on phased reopening of schools. The Ministry allowed the candidate classes and grade four children to reopen last Monday. Children have been in school for the last one week.

Do you think they will continue remaining in school amid increase in the number of infections? According to my own opinion closure of schools will be the only option if the cases continues to be reported. Reopening of schools is contributing greatly to the surge in the numbers of covid-19 infections. Remember children had to move from far places to schools. Most students might have contracted the disease on the way.

School going children are only safe when at home. At home a parent or guardian can easily take care of his/her children. The government should reconsider the issue of reopening schools. Let schools be reopened fully when the safety of children and teachers is guaranteed.
