The Oprah Winfrey Network was hosting a popular show amongst black woman called, BLACK WOMAN OWN THE CONVERSATION. Brittney Cooper was invited to the show as part of the panel members. The host of the show asked the question as follows: Who believes we're making excuses for not taking care of ourselves?
Then Brittney Cooper quickly jumped in to give a response too, to the question right after the first attempt of Lisa Banks from the audience. "So actually I want us to hold up a little bit before we start doing this thing where we blame ourselves... like I hate it when people talk about black women being obese, I hate it! Because it becomes a way to blame us for sets of conditions we didn't create. We're moving, we taking care of kids, but our food quality suffers. We're living in the Trump era, and look those policies kill our people. Yoh can't get access to good health, good insurance. The research says that black women when we do the same diet as white women, we lose less weight and we lose it slower even when we follow our diet than our white women counterpart. And what public health practitioners think is that stress responses change our metabolism, is literally that the racism that your experiencing and the seuggle to make ends meet, actually means that the diet don't work for you the same," she said.
She blames the Trump administration for being racists against black American women in particular, for them getting fat as they cannot afford quality healthy food and health insurance to have access to health practitioners.
Personally, it feels so embarrassing and humiliating as a black person to hear such nonsense and very lousy excuse from a well educated person, who cannot eat healthy and prepare a dietary program that could aid her lose the fat.
