UKZN student and staff member confirmed positive for Covid-19

Minister of higher education Blade Nzimande announced a return of one-third of the student population back to school. Soon after that Zondo announced UKZN would be reopening it's doors to staff and students cautiously because of the increase in Covid-19 infections countrywide. However even with doing so cautiously staff and student still caught Covid-19. It is inevitable to catch the virus so extreme measures needs to be taken and taken very seriously.

"The staff member was based in the annex building at the Howard College campus. DSRA offices have been closed and disinfection is currently underway. We are in the process of tracing possible contacts".

Zondo said that all workers and fellow students who were in direct contact with the staff member and student were asked to isolate themselves for the next 14 days as a precautionary measure.

They reported that they have made every effort at all campuses to stop the spread of the virus. "Health and safety is our number one priority. UKZN is following health and safety protocols from national health authorities and has implemented guidelines in relation to social interactions, social distancing, hygiene, travel and protocols on entering our campuses ".

UKZN announced that it is working tirelessly to ensure that they are compliant with all the regulations. They are also urging all students and staff to comply with all the Covid-19 safety regulations to stay safe
