With Sage Business Cloud South African education is transforming

Sage, a market leader in cloud business management solutions, confirmed that eight South African universities include Sage Business Cloud Accounting and Payroll solutions for students studying business, information systems and HR degrees in their curricula.

Today, Sage HR and accounting platforms are used by more than 14,000 students across 25 South African tertiary institutions-including Sage Business Cloud solutions, Sage Pastel Partner, and Sage Evolution 200. 

Some 2,300 students annually learn to use Sage Business Cloud Accounting and Payroll solutions.

Most universities that adopted the cloud solution as early as 2016 now use their curriculum with customized manuals. Sage Business Cloud Accounting is used by around 35 per cent of universities in South Africa.

Sage has collaborations with Universities in SA 

Sage works with organizations who have not yet migrated to Sage Business Cloud in collaboration to migrate to online services while they update their curricula.

"Sage is passionate about developing the potential of young South African professionals, increasing digital skills and equipping young accountants, human resource and payroll practitioners and IT pros with the latest cloud technology skills," said Pieter Bensch, Sage Africa & Middle East Executive Vice President.

"We have well-established relationships at most major South African universities, which stretch back many years with trade and computer science departments. We have been pioneering the use of cloud-based accounting, payroll and HR software in tertiary education in South Africa for the last five years to help prepare the next generation of professionals for a world of work in which Software-as-a-Service.

In 2019, Fort Hare University kicked off its Sage software journey with a small pilot group of students showcasing practical aspects of the theory learned in textbooks.

Chuma Mjali, lecturer and deputy head of accounting at Fort Hare University, said Sage provided the necessary support that included training for university staff to facilitate successful cloud solutions implementation.

"The instructor's knowledge and skills sent to East London encapsulated many of our employees and made them excited about the cloud software; it takes a great deal to impress accountants. Sage's continued support to ensure seamless delivery was nothing short of excellent once the training was complete.

Mjali added, "Sage's cloud curriculum benefits include its user-friendliness and the ability to translate class-covered theoretical aspects into real world entries captured on the Sage platform.
