MEC closes Eastern Cape school with 200 Covid-19 positive pupils
The Alfred Nzo District COVID 19 District Command Council has accepted the department of education MEC’s decision to shut down Makhawula SSS pending disinfection of the school and further assessment by the DCC.

This came amid the recent COVID 19 outbreak in the school which saw over 200 learners testing positive.
According to the department the learners have been placed under quarantine in the various quarantine sites across the district to monitor them and for them to receive medical attention where necessary.
Government from all spheres is exhausting all possible avenues and using all possible resources to ensure an intense fight against COVID 19 at all fronts in the district. This includes continued mass testing, allocation of resources to disinfection of schools and provision of medical attention to all those in need.
The DCC will also join MEC Gade as he will be visiting Alfred Nzo District and Makhawula SSS tomorrow 26/06/2020 to do a self assessment of the situation.
Meanwhile the DCC has urged people to comply with the COVID 19 alert Level 3 requirements in order to curb the spread of the virus. This includes wearing of masks, observation of social distance between individuals at all times and regular washing of hands with water and soap or use o alchohol based sanitizers.
