Chippa United's owner Chippa Mpengesi is known for firing his team's head coaches in the blink of an eye. However, this time around Rhulani Mokwena was not fired but his loan contract with Chippa had lapsed.

A coach being loaned to another team in football is a very unusual concept. However, Chippa United had agreed to loan Rhulani Mokwena from Orlando Pirates until the end of the season.

Rhulani had been Pirates caretaker coach and had been replaced by German coach, Josef Zinnbauer after a run of poor results. Rhulani refused to return to his role as assistant coach and that is how he got loaned to Chippa United.

Rhulani Mokwena took over from Norman Mapeza and drew with Bidwest Wits in his first game. As luck would have it, it was to be his first and last game in charge of Chippa United. South Africa imposed a lockdown on sporting activities in March in the fight against the Corona virus. The PSL only got permission to continue its season on the 24th of June 2020.

Chippa United have opted against keeping Rhulani as head coach as his loan expires on June 30, 2020.

The South African soccer fraternity would have loved to see how Rhulani Mokwena would have fared as Head Coach of a Chippa United team compared to being incharge of a South African powerhouse in Orlando Pirates.
