The health ministry has released South Africa’s daily statistics of coronavirus related infections.
According Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize, South Africa has recorded 5 688 new cases today, Wednesday, 24 June.
Meanwhile, the death toll has surged pass the 2 000 mark. This brings the total number of deaths to 2 205.
Compared to yesterday, Tuesday, 23 June, the number of deaths went up by 103 - 15 from Eastern Cape, 25 from Gauteng and 63 from Western Cape.
The cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases is 111 796.
More than 1 400 000 tests have been completed in total of which 34 122 new tests are reported.
Meanwhile, earlier today, judgement was reserved in governments application for leave to appeal a lockdown ruling by the Pretoria High Court- government has argued that the matter has compelling reasons of public interest and should be tested in a higher court.
The Pretoria High ruled that lockdown regulations under level four were irrational and invalid.
