SA records highest number of Covid-19 infections in 24 hours

South Africa has recorded the highest number of coronavirus infections in a 24-hour cycle.
The total number of infections as of 25 June is 118 375. On 24 June Health Minister Zweli Mkhize reported that the cumulative number of confirmed cases was 111 796. The Western Cape still holds the highest number of infections, the province accounts for close to 50% of the reported cases.
Gauteng and the Eastern Cape have the second and third highest numbers in the country they are sitting at 28 746 and 20 487 respectively.
The number of deaths has also increased: 87 new deaths have been recorded bringing the total to 2 292. Gauteng has two deaths, 15 from Kwa-Zulu Natal, 17 from Eastern Cape and 53 from the Western Cape.
There have been 59 974 recoveries which translates to 50,7% recovery rate and the mortality rate is 1,9%.
Early July will be the peak of the pandemic, provinces like the Western Cape are preparing for the changes that will likely be taking place in the coming weeks.
