Hope in South Africa as Covid-19 Vaccine trial has began. Check the progress here!

There are now 111 796 reported cases in South Africa, 56 874 recovered and 2 205 deaths.

But there is now a hope as the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa is working with the University of Oxford and the Oxford Vaccine Group to evaluate the vaccine candidate. This marks South Africa’s first trial of a vaccine against Covid-19.

Professor of Vaccinology at Wits University and Director of the South Africa Medical Research Council (SAMRC) Vaccines and Infectious Diseases Analytics Research Unit (VIDA), who leads the South African Ox1Cov-19 Vaccine VIDA-Trial, said that the Currently more than 100 different vaccines were under a development of which about less than 10 vaccines were taken to Lab for human trial. Covid infections continues to rise in all nine (9) provinces including western cape with 52 554 reported case, which is almost the 50% of the total cases reported in the country and followed by Gauteng with 22 341 reported cases as of 25 june and Northern cape as the province to have small number of infected people in South Africa.  Check the South African Covid19 statistic below.
