Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema met with journalists over VBS Mutual Bank corruption allegations.

Malema and other EFF members are believed to be one of the people who benefited from the bank.

Denying the allegations, the former ANC youth leader, sahs he never benefited from VBS Mutual Bank money and also adds that he never lived beyond his means.

"I have never benefited anything from VBS, if I have present it," said Malema.

He further accused the Reserve Bank and other authorities of ignoring the warnings which were presented before them.

Malema says he even asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to save VBS: “I said if there could be any other opportunity of formulating another bank that works along the principles of VBS, then lets do that”.

Hawks made arrests

The past week, the Hawks arrested former VBS chairperson and shareholder over the R2 billion theft of the bank's fund. The Hawks are also expected to make more arrests regarding the scandal.
