One of Port Elizabeth's biggest funeral parlour services has revealed that their phone is constantly ringing as hospitals and families look for safe spaces to store the bodies of COVID-19 patients. The owner of vantyi and vantyi funeral services, Vuyo Vantyi, highlighted how difficult their job have become with COVID-19 in South Africa, and hoped the virus is not here to stay.
According to Vuyo Vantyi, people are unable to bury there loved ones with dignity, as they only have an hour for the burial. "I don't sleep. I'm always getting calls from hospitals about COVID-19 related deaths. I have to make sure that bodies of individuals who died of natural causes are separated from those infected with COVID-19.
Vantyi informed News24 that he has been contacted by some private hospitals in the city, about his storage capacity, because there are so many deaths. I'm arranging how to store the bodies for them now. "People are affected every day in great numbers," he added.
Vantyi buried 30 people on Saturday, 10 on Friday and 25 on Thursday according to a Herald report.
