Dozens of police officers were on the scene after a shootout erupted at the Anthos Shopping Centre on Voortrekker Road.

It is believed that the suspects hijacked a British American Tobacco van in Witpoortjie earlier this morning. The suspects left the van and fled in two BMWs, a black VW Golf and a white Toyota Quantum. A Fidelity Security van and a helicopter followed the suspects to the shopping centre in Monument, where the shootout ensued.

One suspect was injured and three arrested, while the rest fled the scene in the Quantum. The Quantum was then spotted at the Noordheuwel Shopping Centre on Robert Broom Drive, where police continued to pursue them.

It is believed that three of the suspects fled into the field behind Panorama Retirement Village in Noordheuwel. Police are currently pursuing them on foot and have a helicopter searching from above. The News is still waiting for official confirmation of what exactly happened this morning.
