The reasons for this are that South Africa are not in FIFA's top50 ranked countries. A major requirement for Tau to be granted a work permit. Another requirement is that Tau needs to have played 70-75% of his country's games in the last two years.

Brighton this time have an ace up their sleeve as they can argue that Tau's football credentials have been proven in Europe as he has been crowned player of the year and one the league in his two seasons in Belgium.

Failure to obtain a work permit, will see Tau possibly go out on loan again. The destination is unknown as Tau's rise has been tracked by plenty a team and he has earned a lot of admirers in Europe.
