Lagos Flood: Teenage Girl Swept Away By Flood Buried Near Surulere Canal.
According to LASEMA, the remainder of the 19-year-old teenager who was swept off by flood in the neighborhood of Surulere's low-cost housing estate was recovered and buried by the canal in Onilegogoro. The rest was recovered on 22 June.
Director-General of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke- Osanyintolu, in an interview with Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday made the disclosure.
He said the girl, 19, who was simply identified as Ayisat was reportedly swept away by a heavy flood about 12 pm on June 22. On the axis of Alapafuja, Surulere Low-Cost Housing Estate, after heavy rainfall in the state.
The LASEMA Response Team (LRT) and community members all searched for her body in the adjacent canals on June 22 and it all went in vain. Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He said, however, that her death was reported later in Surulere at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the Onilegogoro canal, on 23 June.
The community members buried her next to the canal in Surulere, Onilegogoro, he said.
