The rumour that have been spreading around concerning the said increment in electricity fee Nigerians will be payinhbas from July 2020 seems to true, the minister of power, Mr Sale Mamman explained why this is so in his presentation at an investigative public talk on: “Power Sector Recovery Plan and the Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic” organized by the Senate Committee on Power, in Abuja.

He said the fee was suppose to have been increase in April 2020 but was postponed to July 2020 because of the effect of the killer coronavirus on nigerians.

According to him, the challenges face by the Nigeria power section is embarrassing and need to be address. Development and widening of the country's transmission line is to “budget and release federal government’s commitment of a calculated sum of N32billion.

He claimed that the power sector is also battling with the issues of infrastructural decadence, market inefficiency/transparency, sector governance/policy coordination, increase energy access and completion of legacy projects.

Mr Mamman also lament that the COVID-19 pandemic, has had both negative and positive economic impact not just on the health sector, but the overall economy of the country. He concluded.

Let me tell your my mind, many nigerians that were made to stay at home when the coronavirus case started have not been called back to resume work, many of them eat from hand to mouth, some of them are still waiting for federal government's palliatives, I don't think its a great idea to expect such person to pay increment of electricity bills. I hereby urge our leaders to reconsider there decision concerning the increment.

Do you think Mr Mamman's reason for the increment worth it?
