President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed Victor Giadom, Deputy National Secretary of the All-Progressive Congress (APC), as interim National chairman.
Garba Shehu, the President's spokesman, told House correspondents on Wednesday.
Shehu said Buhari would attend the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting Giadom had scheduled for Thursday.
"The President has received very convincing advice on the position of the bill with regard to the situation of the party and has noted that the bill is on the side of Victor Giadom as acting National chairman.
As he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will participate in the virtual meeting that Giadom has scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
"We urge the media to stop encouraging artificial controversy and to leave no more room for malicious interpretations of the law in this matter.
"In addition to the President, Giadom's meeting is expected to be attended by our governors and the presidents of the National Assembly.
In a letter dated June 23, Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, reported that a meeting of the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) would be held at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.
APC NEC meetings are usually held at the party's National Secretariat
The APC has been embroiled in a leadership crisis following an appeals court decision upholding the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the party's national leader.
While Abiola Ajimobi, the former governor of Oyo, was appointed vice chairman, Giadom said he had taken over the leadership of the party.
Members of the National Working Committee (NWC), who were loyal to the former Oyo Governor, later announced that Eta Hilliard, the South-South vice chairman would act on behalf of Ajimobi, "who is inevitably absent.
Ajimobi, Vice Chairman of APC South, is reportedly struggling with a health problem.
However, Eta had called Gaidom a fraud.
Referring to the court decisions, the vice president said that Giadom was no longer a member of the NWC and APC.
Eta spoke while receiving report on the Edo Governor's primary at the party's national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday night.
"Victor Giadom's membership was suspended this afternoon by a competent court in Port Harcourt.
Not only has he ceased to be a member of the NWC and today his membership was suspended," he said, responding to reporters' questions about Giadom's letter.
"It's not right that you have 15 respected members of the NWC and two of them are virtually joining us and still calling us a faction.
