President Muhammadu Buhari has lamented that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is on a path of self destruction.

He made the comments while speaking on Thursday at the Virtual Emergency Meeting of the APC National Executive Committee.

Buhari said every APC member should be worried by the issues bedeviling the party and the crisis it is presently immersed in.

He said "it is obvious that the fortunes of the Party are currently in jeopardy", calling for an urgent resolution of intra-party rifts.

According to the president, if the issues are not resolved, they "may lead to total disintegration".

He added: "What we see clearly emerging, is that we are beginning to self-destruct. This, my dear Party members, is not just regrettable but utterly gut wrenching."

Buhari said it is unfortunate that the party is unable to maintain its unity and continue on a progressive path.

He advocated for "pragmatic and guided approach" to build on the successes of the ruling party.

He urged party members to put their affairs in order ahead of the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

The president advised all members of the party to put an end to all APC-related legal actions pending in various courts.

Buhari also called for the dissolution of the new National Working Committee, which has already taken effect.

He advocated for the ratification of the primary election conducted in Edo State, which saw Pastor Ize Iyamu emerge as the flagbearer of the party.

Iyamu will face Godwin Obaseki in the September 19 governorship election.
