Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in China, the virus has further spread in over 100 other countries of the world. many affected countries have taken precautionary measures to prevent the escalation of the virus in their countries. Most countries have been forced to make a hasty and stricter decision such total lockdown in, closure of schools and religious centers, in order to curb the spread of the virus in their countries.

Nigeria on the other hand had also responded to the outbreak and have taken the necessary measures to bring the spread of the virus under control. In order to curb the spread of the virus, The Federal Government had imposed a total lockdown and interstate travel ban in the country.

Although, the Federal Government had approved the ease in lockdown. President Muhammadu Buhari made it known on or his democracy day speech.

Nevertheless, President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier given the State Governors the power to make decisions on when to ease lockdown in their various States.

For instance, despite the Federal Government approval reopening of church and mosque, the Lagos State Government refused to adhere with the Federal Government directives, as the state government deemed it unsafe to reopen churches and mosques, due to the persistent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the State.

On the Other hand, some state governors have made the decision to impose another lockdown in their States, even after the federal government had officially eased lockdown in the recent democracy day.

In Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike, who had a few weeks ago took a further decision to impose a total lockdown in two most affected areas in the state. The Governor has placed Onne Community of Eleme L.G.A and Bonne L.G.A in total lockdown in a bid to curb the spread of the virus in the state. The Governor who disclosed that should the number of COVID-19 cases continue to increase, that won't hesitate to place the whole state in total lockdown.

"Pursuant to the fundamental objective of stopping the spread of coronavirus, we have reviewed the situation in Bonny Island and Onne Communities and come to the conclusion that a total lockdown is necessary at this time to shut down the continuing spread of the virus in these communities", he said.

In my opinion, the state government of the following states should consider locking down the state for not less than six (6) months in order to halt the fast-rising if the case on a daily basis.

Lagos: in 5 days the number of cases increased from 8177 to 9072.

Oyo: in 5 days the number of cases increased from 809 to 1055

Rivers: 5 days the number of cases increased from 739 to 930

Delta: 5 days the number of cases increased from 418 to 569.
