Barcelona Confirms Signing Of Miralem Pjanic From Juventus, Good Deal Or Bad Deal? (Opinion)
Six hours before this post was made, Barcelona FC confirmed they had signed Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic on a four year deal. The 30 year old was obtained at a fee of £60 million with some £5 million in variables, from his mother club Juventus FC. The climax of this deal, was the fact that Barcelona offered their young midfielder Arthur Melo in a swap for the more experienced Pjanic. The contract offered to Pjanic would attract a £366 million release clause. If for any reason he wishes to terminate his contract with Barcelona before 2024, then that amount would have to be paid to the Catalan giants. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.
Agitations have been around Camp Nou and other areas of the world where Barcelona faithfuls are found, with every fan singing a similar song, What is in the head of the Barcelona board? why would they go for a short term solution and exchange someone who could serve them longer for it.
This article is dedicated to discussing briefly the idea of this deal and to analyze whether or not the deal is worth the buy from the club. Pjanic has spent four seasons with Juve, as he joined in the year 2016. In this time, he had won 3 Serie A titles, and would win the fourth if Juventus maintain their four point lead in this current season. He has played 171 matches for Juve and has scored 22 times. He started his Serie A journey with Roma where he played and was seen as one of the best midfielders in the world of football. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Miralem Pjanic is regarded as a creative midfielder, a playmaker who can score goals as well as give assists. Barcelona has not faired well this season, due to the lack of experience in their midfield, the attacking midfield trio of Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic and Arthur Melo had rather been scrappy all season, and it is worth it if they can try to put Miralem Pjanic in the mix. His experience at the Serie A and his above 500 club games experience can bring a solution to Barcelona's problem. This way the club is not reliant on only Lionel Messi to bring magic into the game, Pjanic can help them create spaces and chances in which their goalscorers can score from. To be honest with ourselves this season for Barcelona has been a one man show. Messi was always coming to the rescue. And clubs have found out this weakness in the Barcelona squad and so they focus on keeping Messi continually marked. But if Barcelona can have another playmaker, then it would be difficult for these teams to repeat this tactics next season and Barcelona would thereby be able to control their football as they once did. On the reason why the club went for Pjanic, I believe it is mostly for his experience and to help them achieve a goal they have set for themselves before losing Lionel Messi to retirement. So dear Barcelona fans, cheer up Pjanic would be a great addition to your squad. And sorry about your beloved Arthur Melo, don't worry you still have young De Jong to play with. To me signing Miralem Pjanic is a very good deal for Barcelona. He was even acquired for a cheap price from Juventus. Let's keep our fingers crossed and see what next season brings.
