Covid 19 Vaccine: South Africa Set Up For The Vaccine Trial With 2,000 participants

Oxford Jenner Institute, has lately developed a vaccine for the Corona Virus which is already being evaluated in the United Kingdom, and 4,000 participants have currently signed up for the trial.

However, South Africa has positioned in vaccinating 2,000 persons with the vaccine known as ChAdOx1 nCoV-19. Whereby fifty of the candidates are HIV positive.

The University of Witwatersrand (Wits) vaccinology professor Shabir Madhi had lately detailed in at a virtual press conference saying; "We began screening participants for the South African Oxford 1 Covid-19 vaccine test trial last week, and the first participants will be vaccinated this week”.

Whereby, Brazil is yet to finalize it's own pilot, and the United States is preparing for it's test trial for another vaccine in a mass trial of up to 30,000 participants.

At this rate, the coronavirus cases in South Africa had jumped to over 100,000 on Monday, and the number of deaths inched towards 2,000.

Madhi however described the vaccine trial as a “landmark moment" saying; “As we reach out the winter season in South Africa and cases continues increasing on public hospitals, now more than ever we need a vaccine to prevent infection by COVID-19".

As the case may be, the South African health officials have also placed high hopes on dexamethasone, a generic anti-inflammatory drug found to relieve inflammation in various parts of the body ventilated patients.

So far, South African pharmaceutical giant Aspen Pharmacare has recently that said it was ready to scale up production of the steroids that are needed for the treatment.

Abeg they should vaccinate them cos them cos HIV/AIDS in their body alone is enough to cause another pandemic.
