The intrigues surrounding the Edo gubernatorial election slated for September this year have been nothing if not interesting. The disqualification of Obaseki from participating in APC primaries and his subsequent defection to the PDP, have all helped in adding more excitement to the whole political drama and we couldn't have asked for more. Different court orders flying left, right and center, and the crisis in APC leadership have also added another twist to the plot and it is, almost impossible to decipher what would become of the Edo state governorship election.

Will APC lose the state after throwing out Obaseki? Perhaps PDP will take over the state again, after Obaseki emerged as their candidate for the election. Questions have continued to come up and only posterity has the answers.

However, what are the likely possibilities and fallouts from this ever interesting race, to be governor of Edo state?

Checkout these 8 predictions;

1. OBASEKI MAY BE GOVERNOR OF EDO STATE AGAIN

Obaseki may just snap the seat of the governor of Edo state come September 2020 elections. The crisis in APC, the support of PDP heavy weights and the sympathy of Edo citizens may just work in favor of Obaseki after all, after the villainy of Oshiomole and APC in preventing him from running under the party's banner.

2. IZE - IYAMO MAY RETURN TO PDP TO RUN AS GOVERNOR AFTER OBASEKI'S 4YEARS

Victory for Obaseki will throw APC into disarray and a possible return of Ize - Iyamo to PDP will be very likely to happen considering the governor, will only have one term to run. Ize - Iyamo will fancy himself as governor after Obaseki's term.

3. OBASEKI MAY BE SACKED BY COURT AFTER WINNING ELECTION

With the controversies surrounding his certificates, his defection to PDP after going for screening in APC, it is almost likely that aggrieved candidates will prey on these flaws, if obaseki wins the September election. With the way the whole situation is, Obaseki may be removed by court judgment in like manner as what happened in Bayelsa after coming out victorious.

4. APC MAY FALL IN EDO STATE AND THERE MAY BE MASS EXODUS

Victory for Obaseki and PDP will be catastrophic for APC and Oshiomole. A mass exodus of members of the party will likely happen, and the party may be left in tartars.

5. OSHIOMOLE MAY LOSE PERMANENTLY HIS POSITION AND RESPECT IN APC

One catastrophic consequence of the rift between Oshiomole and Obaseki has been on his position, in APC. If APC loses the September election, Oshiomole's respect and position in APC would have been lost.

6. OBASEKI'S POLITICAL CAREER COULD BE OVER

Although things look good for Obaseki at the moment, a failure to secure his second term bid may likely end his political career. There is only one way out; win the election or burst.

7. IZE - IYAMO MAY BE GOVERNOR OF EDO STATE, CEMENTING OSHIOMOLE'S PLACE IN EDO STATE AS THE KING MAKER

Well, Oshiomole may just have his way in Edo state, if Ize - Iyamo wins and become governor.

8. OSHIOMOLE MAY RECONCILE WITH OBASEKI

No permanent enemy in politics, only permanent ambitions. This is in the case of Ize - Iyamo and Oshiomole and a possible reconciliation, may happen in the nearest future after the Edo governorship election.

Which of these is more likely to happen? What are your thoughts?

Your 8 postulations of the likely effects of the election in Edo State come September, is very analytical and correct. Any of the scenerio could happen. However, the most probable to me, is your postulation number 3, regarding the certificate issue. I am not going to sit down and say APC will not think towards that direction. The Party will. It will likely be it's Plan 'B' for the election. It is the reason I am puzzled why the PDP sacrificed a much younger Hon. Ogbeide-Ihama for Obaseki, knowing his certificate scandal, and having taken him to court on the subject matter. That suit is still pending. Perhaps the lure of advantage of incumbency during Gubernatorial Elections was too strong to resist. I wish the trip: Oshiomhole, Obaseki and Ize-Iyamu all the best. I pray for peace and stability in Edo State from now on till the election time and even beyond.

Why should you envisage court sacking Obaseki and on what reasonable ground? Apc and Oshiomhole were just playing to the gallery about his certificates mind you.
