The primary law enforcement agencies--Nigeria Police Forces, seemed to have forgotten its role, and as well its importance, during this trying time.
It could be recalled that the president, Mr. Muhammadu Buhari, charged the nation's Police Force to ensure the new guidelines were strictly followed.
This was put in place in a bid to ensure full compliance with the extension of the first phase of the gradual easing of the lockdown announced earlier this month by the presidential task force committee on covid-19.
However, this guidelines seemed to be a mere faux and an opportunity to reopen the nation's economy, not considering the citizens welfare or safety.
Here in Lagos, some Police Officers have turned this responsibility into a decoy to perpetrate their shenanigans thereby putting the lives of Lagosians at risk.
Following the announcement of the extension of the first phase of the easing of the lockdown by the PTF on covid-19. it could be recalled that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwó-olú, Further added list of guidelines to be followed as regards the easing, and particularly, the guidelines to be observed in market places.
This guidelines, to be enforced by the Nigeria police Forces, have been dented and further turned into a small scale business by some bad eggs in the institution. As such, posing a major threat to Lagos.
Market places are overcrowded. Guidelines are being ignored.
Security officers are doing little or less to ensure that the guidelines are complied with.
Lagos is at a risk of recording higher numbers in the cases of the deadly virus.
This is a call to the Lagos State government to look into this urgent situation by increasing the security check in market places, and ensure security officers are doing their respective duties as assigned to them.
