Budding Nigerian musician Abayomi Ayeni, profoundly called by his stage name, Thespis, has shut down all rumours that his music sounds like legendary singers 9ice and 2Face Idibia.

The Jupiter NG signee, Thespis’ music ‘Eruku’ recently got tongues wagging with some music critics disparaging the young talent’s style of music which they claimed sounded like that of Nigerian revered artistes 9ice, 2Face and Qdot.

The Canada-based singer whose new music ‘Level Up’ is fast getting impressive attention in his home country and where he lives, has however, come out to state that inasmuch as he respects the legends, he doesn’t sound like any of them. “I need not hide under anybody’s shadow to get to the top”, Thespis said in a candid conversation with Celebrity Gig Magazine.

“Honestly, I never feel or compare my music with any music brand because I am Thespis. Thespis is Thespis! I don’t feel cool if some critics come up with trending news about me saying that I sound like 9ice, 2Face or Qdot.

“Yes, I respect their sounds, they are legends, and I’m even looking forward to working with them so that people can compare and clarify we have different resonances. Let me be blunt here, I don’t need to hide under anybody’s shadow or form to get to the top”, Thespis added.

The likes of Waje, Darey Art Alade, J. Martins, Chidinma, Wande Coal, Seyi Shay, Iyanya and a lot of other successful musicians in the Nigerian Music Industry started out their music journey from the church just like Thespis. The amazing singer narrated how his career stated in the church at a tender age saying;

“My career started as a drummer in church at tender age before engaging myself fully in music because I know I have that talent. In short, entertaining people with my music is what I derive joy from. My Music is not a craft I learnt from someone, it’s a gift; if you have it, you have it”.

Thespis explained he is already working on plans to make a bold statement with his music in Nigeria and take his career to a global level. He retorted that “working prospects with my brother Mr. Bello who is my Manager and team leader for The Jupiter Ng, soon I will release more collaboration with music icon Ebenezer Obey and some American singers. Also, my African and American tours are in the works.

Thespis has promised to release the official music video for his new single ‘Level Up’ featuring Balo soon, following the positive reviews the song is getting from his fans and music pundits.
