Gomes has seen playing time hard to come by at United ever since breaking through the ranks from the youth setup, and with the emergence of Mason Greenwood and signing of Bruno Fernandes, the 19-year old midfielder has fallen further down the pecking order.

Angel whose existing contract expires tomorrow have made 10 appearances for the Red Devils this season, but could walk out of Old Trafford for nothing, with United failing to convince him that his future lies at the Theater of Dreams.

"I've got no news, nothing, so it doesn't look like it," Solskjaer said when asked about Gomes' contract situation.

"To be honest, I've not heard from them last night or this morning.

"So it seems like that they haven't managed to agree (a deal), so the answer is probably short and yes then."

It has been widely reported that Chelsea have offered Gomes a route out of Man United, but it remains to be seen if his heart is set on swapping Old Trafford for Stamford Bridge.

Peradventure Gomes opts to leave Manchester United and join Chelsea, he may still experience same lack of minutes, given that there are already competitions in the Blues' midfield line.

And with Chelsea having Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech in their ranks already, Gomes have a really hard decision to make, and very fast.
