Chelsea table £80 million bid for Real Madrid target

Chelsea have made a stunning £80 million bid for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, £8 million more than Real Madrid.

According to WinSports, as relayed by The Sun, Chelsea have now once again set their sights on Kai Havertz. The Blues have reportedly tabled an astounding £80 million bid for the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker, in an effort to outbid the other interested party in Real Madrid.

Earlier this month, Los Blancos were tipped as favourites in the pursuit of Havertz. However, Chelsea’s latest bid is £8 million higher than the £72 million Real Madrid are willing to pay. In addition, the Premier League giants are also ready to offer the midfielder a five-year contract, worth £8.6 million per year.

In contrast, Real Madrid were only willing to pay £8.1 million per year, which, though not bad, could certainly affect Havertz’s decision even though the player himself had reportedly favoured a move to Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

"Stamford Bridge might not be a bad destination either, especially if we consider Chelsea’s intent in the transfer market this time." The Blues have already secured the services of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, with the latter being a teammate of Havertz in the German national side.

The RB Leipzig sensation is already expected to make a major impact in the offensive department for Chelsea next season with his versatility, productivity and pace. The addition of Havertz, in that regard, should add an extra dimension to the club’s offensive unit that has already looked quite promising under Frank Lampard.

At the same time, however, it remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea can really afford to sign another marquee attacker, especially when they are in imminent need of reinforcements at the back. They were notably going after Borussia Dortmund’s Roman Burki last month, which might have been a disastrous choice.

As for Real Madrid, they surely have the financial edge not only in general terms but also because of the fact that they are yet to actually sign a single player this summer. On the contrary, they are expected to offload a bunch of star players that could serve as a massive financial boost for Zidane.

Hence, Chelsea fans should not be confident regarding the club’s reported lucrative offer for Havertz as Los Merengues can always come up with an improved one. But, whether or not Zidane is willing to go after the German international this summer remains a big question.

Frank Lampard has described Kai Havertz as 'a top player' as discussions over his future continue.

Speculation has been building over the future of the 20-year-old who is said to be attracting the interest of clubs such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The Daily Mail reported that the Blues are looking to tie up a move for the Bayer Leverkusen skipper as they look to take a proactive approach in the summer market.

It's claimed that a move could cost in the region of £75million - a significant outlay considering the early business that Chelsea have already completed.

Given the fact that the Blues have already completed the signing of Timo Werner, it remains to be seen whether the club will have the funds to pursue another big-money deal.

Few can argue with the quality of Kai Havertz - least of all Frank Lampard - however the Chelsea head coach insisted that no formal offer had been made or the Leverkusen starlet.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lampard said: "He's a top player but we're certainly not going to comment on players at other teams.

"It cannot be our focus. No bids have gone in."

The transfer window isn't even open and we're already gripped by what is going on.

Chelsea have been quickest out of the blocks with two huge signings all-but wrapped up, and it seems that they aren't finished yet.

In fact, they're only just getting started.

If they can tie up a deal for Kai Havertz that would one heck of a coup - especially if they are beating some of Europe's biggest clubs to the punch.

Should a move for Kai Havertz materialise, Chelsea will have an attacking line which will be the envy of most sides in the Premier League.

With Callum Hudson-Odoi already at the club, and with Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech on the way, it means that the Blues will undoubtedly be one of the more entertaining sides to watch next term.

Add Havertz into the mix and this could be a huge boost.

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta says they've found a way to play successfully without Eden Hazard this season.

Hazard left the Blues for Real Madrid last summer.

And after victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, fullback Azpilicueta declared: “We lost a very important player, of course, but we had a challenge, we started in pre-season and we've worked hard.

“Maybe people didn't expect us to be where we are but if we are there it is because we deserve to be there.

“We're in a good position. Now it's time to finish the job. It's in our hands. It's up to us to take it and finish where we want to finish."

Manchester United stars Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes start together for the first time in Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Sheffield United – LIVE on talkSPORT.

Pogba had to settle for a place on the bench for United’s first game back against Tottenham but enjoyed an impressive cameo, winning the penalty that Fernandes converted to seal a 1-1 draw in north London.

And his performance has impressed Ole Gunner Solskjaer enough to seriously consider giving the World Cup winner his first United start in ten months, following his recovery from an ankle injury.

Pogba has been sidelined since Boxing Day, but his ankle problem has plagued him all season having made just nine appearances in all competitions.

And that sees him start alongside star January signing Fernandes for the first time – a partnership that has been eagerly anticipated by supporters.

Pogba hasn’t started a game for the Red Devils since their 1-1 draw against Arsenal on September 30, 2019.

It means Fred and Scott McTominay, who started in midfield against Spurs, drop to the bench to accommodate Pogba – and Nemanja Matic also comes into the side.

Fernandes recently told talkSPORT that he couldn’t wait to finally play alongside the Frenchman, hailing Pogba as one of the world’s best players.

Bruno Fernandes tells talkSPORT how excited he is to finally play with Paul Pogba at Manchester United

“For me, playing alongside him will be amazing, obviously everyone wants to play with the best players and Paul is one of them.”
