How to make apple cider vinegar at home

Before I go on to give details on how to make apple cider vinegar, below are some of the beauty, household and cooking uses of apple cider vinegar;

1) All purpose cleaner

It is a natural alternative to commercial cleaning agents. This is because of its antibacterial properties. To get this all purpose natural cleaner, mix one cup of water with half a cup of apple cider vinegar.

2) Facial toner

It helps to reduce signs of aging, when used as a skin tonic. Add one part of apple cider vinegar to 2 parts of water. Mix together and apply to the skin using a cotton pad.

3) It traps fruit flies

Pour some apple cider vinegar into a cup, add a few drops of dish soap to help trapped flies sink.

4) In the bath

Add 1 to 2 cups of apple cider vinegar to your bath water and soak yourself in the tub for detox.

5) In sauce

Add to tomato based sauces to give them a fuller flavour.

6) Home made cakes and candies

It adds a popular flavour and texture enhancer in baking.

7) As natural deodorant

Wipe your underarm with diluted apple cider vinegar, it gives you same effects as commercial deodorants.

Having all that in mind, let us make some apple cider vinegar.

Ingredients; 6 cups of chopped apple

6 to 7 tablespoons of sugar. This is to facilitate the fermentation process. You can make your apple cider vinegar with or without this ingredient.

6 to 7 cups of warm water ( clean water), but not hot.

Procedure:

1) Put the chopped apple in a jar

2) stir the sugar into the warm water to dissolve it. Pour it over the apple, do not fill up the jar. Leave about 2 to 3 inches.

3) Cover with cheese cloth or a thin fabric (breathable) and hold in place with a rubber band.

4) Keep in warm dark place for 2 weeks.

5) After 2 weeks strain out the solids.

6) While it is under fermentation process, use a wooden, ceramic or plastic spoon to stir the mixture. Do not use stainless spoon as it may react with the solution.

7) With the solids removed, cover up again with fresh fabric and keep in a warm dark place for another 4 weeks.

Apple cider vinegar is ready for use.

Remember, too much consumption of apple cider vinegar may have side effects, always adhere to prescriptions.
