Meet the first player to score a Champions League goal.

Daniel Ray Owefin Amokachi is an Ex-Nigerian international. He was born on the 30th of December 1972 at Kaduna, Nigeria. Amokachi was nicknamed “The Bull" while he was an active player. The Bull as he was fondly called was discovered by a one time Nigeria national team coach Clemens Westerhof while plying his trades with Ranchers Bees.

Amokachi made his international debut in the 1990 African cup of Nations. Soon afterwards, his first point of call in Europe, was at Club Brugge in Belgium.

He made the squad of Club Brugge to the new format of the Champions League and became the first player to score in the competition. He scored the sole goal as his team defeated CSKA Moscow from Russia in the opening match in the group.

Amokachi, why recounting his ordeal during a brief visit to Brugge, was quoted by media outlets saying:

“My finest moment at the club would have to be my first goal in the Champions League against CSKA Moscow. That goal brought me my fame, really, as it was the way first goal in the history of the Champions league".

Amokachi also had short spell at Everton between 1994-1996 and will be fondly remembered for substituting himself in the FA cup semifinal clash with Tottenham.

He appeared for Nigeria 44 times (44 caps) scoring 13 goals and was part of the victorious Atlanta 96' Olympic gold medal team.

“The Bull" ventured into managerial duties with Nasarawa united and Enyimba football club of Aba, as well as assistant coach of the National team of Nigeria at different point in time.
