Suspended APC Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has had a change of fortune from the most influential chairman of the party ever to an almost disgraced one.
His legendary tussle with the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki which led to the disqualification of the governor and his subsequent defection to the PDP has set the erstwhile chairman against the people of the state who are miffed at his high handedness.
The slogan on the streets of Benin City is: "Say no to godfatherism". More and more people are queuing up behind Obaseki not for his achievements or for what he has done or not done but because they want to see an end to Oshiomhole's influence in the state.
With a court affirming the ex-national chairman's suspension and President Muhammadu Buhari's subtle endorsement of Victor Giadom as the new acting chairman, Oshiomhole's star seems to have finally dimmed.
A statement released by the presidency and signed by Garba Shehu SSA, Media and Publicity revealed that the president "has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman.
Because he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon.
We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter.
In addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our Governors and the leaders of the National Assembly."
Indeed this may be the end of the road for Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman of the APC, an event that may not augur too well for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a man whose ambition it is rumoured, was to use Oshimhole as his ladder to get the presidential ticket on 2023.
In the same vein, Edo APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, after his election tactfully distanced himself from the man whose influence allegedly helped him clinch the position by declaring that he does not need any godfather to win an election.
It seems that suddenly, Adams Oshiomhole has become a political leper.
