Taking penalties is not easy at all. It's an important part of the game, yet not every player has the calm nerves and cool head to step up and take penalties for their teams.

When a player stands over the ball from 12 yards with only the keeper to beat it looks so easy to put the ball at the back of the net. But as the player take each stride, he begins to feel the the weight of the whole world on his shoulder.

Here's a list of the top five penalty takers of all time who took football matches to another level from the spot.

He played for Blackburn, Southampton, Newcastle and was known for his physical style of play.

Alan Shearer played 67 penalties and scored 56 of them.
