SAD! Akeredolu May Lose His Bid To Contest For Second Term Ticket For This Reason!

Indications from the electoral process of Ondo state may also be shaky like that of Edo state and points to the possibility that incumbent governor, Arakunrin Akeredeolu may not get the opportunity to enter the gubernatorial contest where he hopes to clinch a second term ticket.

This is because the Independent National Electoral Commission this Wednesday rejected the party’s notice of governorship primary which was sent to it.

According to the electoral umpire, its rejection of the party’s notice stems from the fact that the letter which was sent to the commission bears only one signatory, that of the party’s acting national secretary.

This the commission says is in obvious contravention of the provision of Article 4.4 of the commission’s regulations and guidelines for the conduct of party primaries which requires that such notices shall be jointly signed by the national chairman and national secretary of the political party.

The commission had written back to the party in a letter dated June 22nd, 2020 saying the letter ought to be jointly signed by the party’s national chairman as well as its national secretary.

This obviously is putting the party in a dilemma as you know, there is an ongoing tussle between Victor Giadom led leadership and the Ajimobi led leadership over who is the rightful person to take over as acting National Chairman in the absense of Oshiomole who presently stands suspended as chairman.

Part of the commission’s letter reads, “The commission notes that your notice scheduling the conduct of APC Ondo State governorship primary on July 20, 2020, was signed by only the acting national secretary.

“This is contrary to the provision of Article 4.4 of the commission’s regulations and guidelines for the conduct of party primaries which requires that such notices shall be jointly signed by the national chairman and national secretary of the political party.

The commission therefore adviced the party to “Accordingly, your party is advised to issue an appropriate notice for the conduct of its Ondo State governorship primary in line with relevant provisions of the regulations and guidelines for the conduct of party primaries.”

This development may put Akeredolu’s chances of contesting for the gubernatorial election in jeopardy if the party is not able to get the appropriate signatures on the letter and properly have its primay within the stipulated time.

Interesting times really lies ahead in the Ondo gubernatorial election given the power tussle at the center.
