1.COVID-19: Why Nigerian mortality is low — PTF

The Presidential Task Force, PTF, on COVID-19 on Monday explained that the mortality rate of the disease is low in Nigeria compared to other countries with similar climatic characteristics.

The PTF said that the mortality rate of the disease is low due to the age bracket of most of those infected by the virus.

Chairman of the task force and Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, stated this after he led his team to brief President Muhammadu Buhari on the progress of the national response to the pandemic at the presidential villa, Abuja on Monday.

2.FG approves domestic flights’ resumption

The Federal Government has approved the safe resumption of domestic flights in the country.

It has also lifted the ban placed on interstate travels with effect from July 1 , provided such journeys are made outside curfew hours. 

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID - 19 , Boss Mustapha , disclosed this at the ongoing daily briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday.

Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation , disclosed that the latest developments were contained in the task force’ s fifth interim report which was submitted to the President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd. ) , earlier in the day.

3.IG orders CP to restore security Aides of Ondo Deputy Governor

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Bolaji Salami, to restore the security details of the state’s deputy governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, with immediate effect. 

The security Aides of the Deputy Governor were said to have been withdrawn last week by CP Salami.

The IGP’s directive was contained in a memo addressed to the Police Commissioner through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Operations, Force Headquarters Abuja.

4.Court reinstates 4 lecturers demoted in Otuoke Federal University

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state has ordered the reinstatement of four out of seven lecturers demoted by the management of the Federal University, Otuoke, in Ogbia local council area of the state and awarded N20 million fine to the school as damages to affected lecturers. 

The University management had in 2018 demoted a Professor and 6 other lecturers with doctorate degrees over what it termed as “lack of requisite scholarship”
