Arsenal scored two goals and kept a clean sheet at a place where they have once only ,once in the previous seven attempts. So the Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was visibly pleased after the game, especially with the discipline and the resilience his team showed in their defending.
But the Gunners boss was particularly vocal about two players, Eddie Nketiah and Granit Xhaka. Xhaka controlled the Gunners midfield while the youngster Eddie Nketiah, latched on to a horrible pass from the Saints keeper, and gave Arsenal the crucial lead.
Speaking about Xhaka, Arteta was quick to point out, that he is someone from whom others need to learn.
“He’s a big presence,” Arteta said. “He’s someone who doesn’t hide. He has very clear principles and values, and he puts that on the pitch every time he’s there.”
The Gunners boss praised the commitment of the Switzerland international, and added that he is an example to the other players. But he also stressed that he wouldn’t like to praise a single player, as it was a complete team effort.
On Eddi Nketiah, the Arsenal boss was all praise for the Englishman, particularly the player’s maturity and commitment since his arrival. Nketiah scored a goal by forcing a mistake from the Saints keeper by putting pressure, and the Spanish manager is also a fan of that.
“In that heat, to keep chasing players and putting them under pressure, sometimes it’s not a really nice thing to do. But obviously when you get a goal from the ,mistakes they’ve made – which could have caused a few more goals – it’s really important,” he said.
“I am happy with Eddie, the way he’s played again today, but I’m happy in general with the team,” Arteta further added.
Arsenal will travel to Sheffield ,on Sunday for their FA Cup Quarter Final, tie against the Blades.
