1.Lagos arraigns cousins for killing Maersk MD’s wife

The Lagos State Government , on Wednesday , arraigned two cousins , Olamilekan Adegoke and Akande Adeyinka , for allegedly killing the wife of the Managing Director of Maersk Nigeria Limited, Bernadette Tohouo.

The defendants were arraigned before Justice Modupe Nicole -Clay of the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere on eight counts bordering on conspiracy , murder, attempted murder, unlawful assault, robbery, armed robbery and rape.

PUNCH Metro had reported that the defendants , on December 8 , 2019 , attacked the Managing Director of Maersk Nigeria , Gildas Tohouo, and stabbed his wife , Bernadette, to death at their residence on No. 1 Luggard Avenue, Ikoyi. 

The defendants also reportedly stabbed Gildas and forced him to drink a substance suspected to be acid. 

The couple had organised a party in their house on the day of the incident and many guests were gathered in the compound to felicitate with them. 

Adegoke , who is an electrician working with the estate , was granted access to the party and reportedly used his familiarity with the residents to smuggle in his cousin , Adeyinka’s. 

After the party ended around 11 .30 pm and the guests had departed for their various homes, Adegoke and Adeyinka were said to have lurked around the couple’ s apartment and when there was power outage in the building , the defendants allegedly offered to assist the couple to restore power.

The couple , who recognised one of them as an electrician in the estate , opened the door for them to gain entry into the main building and the defendants allegedly attacked the couple with knives.

At Wednesday ’s proceedings , the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice , Moyosore Onigbanjo ( SAN) , told the court that Adegoke had unlawful sexual intercourse with the deceased before she was killed.

2.Man arrested for jumping into Ogun River

A 36 -year - old father of five , Fatai Oyedele , was arrested on Wednesday after a failed suicide attempt.

Oyedele , who is a cloth seller , was rescued from the Ogun River in the Akin -Olugbade area of Abeokuta around 1 .15 pm. 

He reportedly left his residence at the Tourist Estate , Obere , Atan Ota in the Ado -Odo / Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State for Abeokuta to commit suicide.

He was also caught with a bottle of an insecticide during the attempt to end his life. 

The reason for his action was not known as of the time of filing this report , but Oyedele was taken to the Adigbe Police Station. 

The Public Relations Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps , Babatunde Akinbiyi , confirmed the incident. 

Akinbiyi said in a statement that Oyedele was pulled out of the water by TRACE personnel with the support of some residents of the area. 

He added that the man was later handed over to the personnel of the Adigbe Police Station. 

3.Obaseki favoured as 2,229 delegates elect Edo PDP candidate

A total of 2 , 229 delegates , are expected to decide who emerges as the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Edo State governorship election , slated to hold on September 19 , 2020.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary , Mr Kola Ologbondiyan disclosed this , in Abuja , on Wednesday. 

He said the party followed due process in line with its time -tested procedures of electing eligible delegates , who had the responsibility of electing the most suitable candidate among the array of eligible aspirants seeking to fly the party ’s flag in the governorship election.

4.Crisis: Bulama counters Buhari, says ‘Giadom’s APC NEC illegal’

The National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Arc. Waziri Bulama, has described Thursday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party as “illegal”.

Bulama, in a statement on Wednesday titled ‘Purported NEC Meeting to Hold on June 25, 2020 is Illegal’, said it would be untrue that President Muhammadu Buhari renowned for insisting on compliance with the constitution and rule of law would support the convening of such an illegal NEC by a non-member of APC’s NWC.

He urged all to disregard “the said notice” as neither the NWC nor the NEC had called for such meeting.
