IMan United in danger of losing transfer race for Benfica academy product

Real Betis are reportedly looking at a solution to allow them to win the hunt for Manchester United linked Florentino Luis, as the club are aware they will be up against it financially competing for the Benfica youngster.

The Benfica midfielder has been compared to Real Madrid star Casemiro and is set to be the subject of a transfer scramble this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are claimed to be admirers of Florentino, while Leeds United, Real Madrid, Manchester City, AC Milan and Sevilla have all been linked with the 20-year-old ace.

According to ESPN, the board have identified the defensive midfielder as someone who could aid the club.

"The 20-year-old’s entourage, Bruno Carvalho Santos, met with Old Trafford senior figures in January and has been dealing with enquiries since."

Los Verdiblancos are aware that they cannot go toe-to-toe with their competitors for the player and as such, according to a Seville-based daily Estadio Deportivo, are looking at another solution.

On the table could be a joint-ownership offer to Aguias, similar to that Betis agreed with Barcelona to take Emerson to Andalucia.

The Brazilian joined the club from Atletico Mineiro in a deal which saw the club and Blaugrana taking joint-ownership; Emerson is on the books at Betis, but the Catalans have an option to take him for €6 million in 2021.

Florentino came through the youth ranks at the Liga NOS giants and broke into the senior team squad in early 2019.

Scott McTominay has been told to push on - not rest on his laurels - by Dimitar Berbatov after securing a new deal.

The Scotsman has established himself in Manchester United's midfield over the past 12 months.

And the former Red Devil believes he has all the qualities to eventual wear the armband at Old Trafford having come through the club's academy.

The 23-year-old has made 28 appearances this term and United's decision to renew his deal shows a huge sense of trust according to Berbatov.

He told Betfair: "I think it is a perfect time to for Manchester United to extend Scott McTominay's contract. I think he is developing in the right way, playing regularly and I hope they give him more time.

"It certainly shows that the club have faith in him as a player and the club are making a statement that they are going to depend on him in the future. He's still young and in his early 20s, so for him to see that the club are trusting him and rewarding him with a contract extension is a great day for him to celebrate.

"He now needs to put those celebrations aside and prove why the club have given him a contract extension, he needs to be even better than before, and he needs to put even more effort into his game so that he can show that he can be a regular starter.

"He definitely deserves a new contract, he has a great confidence in the way he moves around the pitch and the way he looks for the ball. He is at the stage where he is now comfortable in his position and the way he plays football.

"In the beginning he needed some game time to get used to everything but now he is fully integrated into the team at such an early age, which is great because he now has more time to play, enjoy his football and make a name for himself as a player.

"With his physique and the way he plays football, he looks like a future captain and leader of Manchester United to me. Now, the most important thing isn't to relax because he has a new deal, it is the opposite, he needs to play and work even harder.

"He is in the right place to develop, he is surrounded by great players and the coach believes in him. How good he turns out to be only depends on him and how ambitious he is to be one of the best."

United posted their team news to their official Twitter account - and fans have had an extremely positive reaction to the side that Solskjaer has gone with.

Loads of Man Utd fans happy with tonight’s line-up against Sheffield United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named his starting line-up to face Sheffield United in the Premier League tonight, with the game being held behind closed doors at Old Trafford.

Fans seem happy on social media with Solskjaer opting to start Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.

With a star studded midfield and attacking line-up, you’d be hoping Manchester United will have enough to take three points from the Blades, but they also want to keep their dreams of playing in Europe alive.

Chris Wilder’s side have yet to score a goal since the Premier League’s resumption after playing two games.

The biggest headline from the line-up sees Pogba back in the starting XI. It’s the first time the Frenchman has started a game with new signing Fernandes, and hopefully it’s enough to unease a few of the Sheffield United players.

It will be interesting to see how much freedom both Pogba and Fernandes will be given, together in midfield, to express themselves, and it comes as no surprise that Nemanja Matic is the one tasked with being the anchor.

David de Gea was always going to start tonight’s game between the posts. Solskjaer is right to stand by his man and probably believes he can get back to his best between now and the end of the season.
