He was arrested by the army. His wife was also arrested few days after his own arrest.
National President of Revolutionary Lawyers Forum, Mr Tope Akinyode,, stated "we have taken into consideration that the unlawful detention of Lance Corporal Martins violates his fundamental human rights.
"unfortunately, the Nigerian Army displayed misuse of power again on 25th June when it arrested and detained the wife of Lance Corporal Martins, Mrs Victoria Idakpini, leaving her three children within the care of nobody.
"This unattainable diploma of wickedness from the Nigerian navy is really worth the condemnation of absolutely everyone, to mention the least.
"Already, Nigerians are every day losing confidence in the army but this current arrest is a large blow to the country at large.
"we will battle the oppressive and abrasive dispositions of the Nigerian army and we're going to ensure that justice is served in this example."
