It is no doubt that the ruling All progressive congress (APC) has been experiencing some internal governance issues, with various warring parties refusing to sheath their swords. The embattled chairman- comrade Adams Oshiomhole who was suspended by the court and the incumbent governor of Edo state- governor Obaseki appears to be at the centre of the recent crisis, with their game of long knives.

Recall that in the past weeks, the APC through its National working committee(NWC) headed by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole suspended Governor Obaseki from all party activities both at the state and national level. This move by the National working committee certainly didn’t go down well with the incumbent governor, considering the bad blood that existed between the governor and the embattled Party chairman. These events culminated to the incumbent governor dumping the party for the Peoples democratic party PDP where he contested the primaries and emerged as the party flag bearer with a resounding victory.

On the other hand, Comrade oshiomhole has come under heavy scrutiny and criticism as a cross section of party leaders and stakeholders believe that he didn’t display true leadership in the events culminating to Governor Obaseki’s defection to the PDP.

In a bid to prevent an escalation of the home front war happening in the party, the National Executive council (NEC) of the APC with the consent of President muhammdu buhari sacked the Oshiomhole-led National working committee and ordered all members to withdraw all court cases. The meeting which took place at the state house Abuja, despite the resistance from the NWC pulled the break on lingering leadership crisis rocking the party with the dissolution of the NWC. A 13-member caretaker committee was inaugaurated and is to be chaired by yobe state Governor, Mr Mai Mala Buni.

However, the dissolution did not go down well with the NWC, headed by Adams Oshimhole who is now on suspension, as he has made clear his intentions to consult his lawyers, possibly to file a lawsuit to challenge the position of the Party’s National executive council, thereby adding fuel to already burning fire as the National executive council arm of the party through the president has mandated party members to withdraw all court cases.

Do you think the National executive council’s decision to dissolve the Oshiomhole-led NWC was the right move? Feel free to share you thoughts in the comments section.
