The main reason for Access Bank Debiting It's Customers For Stamp Charges

Access bank had said it discover an error in its records of operations, whereby the stamp duty charges on transactions that are applicable were not passed on to customers.

They had said that these omissions took place between 1 February, 2020 and 30 April, 2020. The bank had apologized that they are deeply sorry for this error but all the concerned customer will pay off the charges.

Based on an email sent by access bank to its customers, the accrued N50 stamp duty will be from the accounts of applicable customers for remittance to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The had therefore urged their customers to keep enough money in their bank accounts so as to be able to accommodate all the charges that will be debited.

This is what part of the bank email to its customers had said;

" We recently discovered that the charges on applicable transactions carried out between February 1, 2020 and April 30, 2020, were inadvertently not passed to your account. We sincerely apologize for this.

" However, in compliance with the CBN mandate, we will be require to process the accumulated charges for the said period on your account for remittance to Central Bank of Nigeria. We request that you fund your account to accommodate this charge".

The email had simply said that CBN requires a stamp duty charge of N50 to be imposed on holders of savings or current accounts for transactions (including both deposits and electronic transfers) exceeding N10,000.

A whole N7,000 was debited from this man. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

So technically, what this whole thing means is that

1) Access bank customers are paying for the bank's expensive mistake/error. Why?

2) All the charges Access bank customers are being debited of now are the ones staring from February 1st to April 30th. This explains those having debit alerts of N7,000.

The charges piled up.

3) They said they are following CBN instructions.

The question now is why should your customers pay heavily for an expensive error your bank made.

This period of lock down where money is scarce and a necessity, you're taking the little people have? .

Some people got their last dime debited from their account because of this bank's mistake.

Access bank if the main reason for this constant debit of your customers account is due to your error and carelessness, then your bank is incompetent.

Access needs to do better.

It seems every institution in Nigeria is designed to kill Nigerians. If government couldn't kill you, police, banks, pay TV, Toll, Electricity, Security, CDA, beggars etc plus you'll still pay tax.
